Citations

To avoid plagiarism, you will need to cite your sources: you will need to provide enough information about a source so that anyone can be able to find the exact item. The necessary information  varies according to the type of publication you use.

As you do you research, remember to create a list of sources that you use with all of the citation components for the particular kind of source.


 

For a book, you will need:

  • author(s) name
  • title of book
  • publisher
  • place where book was published
  • copyright date or date of publication

 


 

For a print article, you will need

  • author(s) name
  • title of the article
  • title of the publication in which the article is included
  • volume number 
  • issue number
  • date of publication
  • page numbers of the article


 

For an electronic version of a printed article, you will need

  • the same as the print article, plus
  • the access path or database name and the date you accessed, printed or downloaded the article
  • name of the library or personal subscription service


 

For a web page, you will need

  • author(s) name (if available)
  • full title of the document or web page
  • title of the complete work or website if applicable
  • date of publication or last revision (if available)
  • URL of the web page
  • date of visit
