Subject Directories

Two basic types of subject directories are available: (1) academic and professional, and (2) commercial.

Academic and professional directories are created by subject experts or librarians in order to help students and researchers find high-quality Web sites. Sites that are included in the directory must meet certain standards or criteria, and usually include a brief description.

Use a subject directory:

  • When your subject is general.
  • When you want to explore or browse the many aspects of a topic.
  • When you want to see a list of websites on your subject rather than individual pages within these sites.
  • When you want to see a list of websites organized by subject and selected by experts (human beings rather than computers).
