IL Tutorial: Exploring Topics

Choose something that is of interest to you. It's much easier to research and write about a topic in which you're interested. If your professor assigns a topic to you, try to connect it to your field of study or your interests in order to focus your research. 

• Think about things that you like to do.
• Think back over the last few months about an event or conversation you enjoyed.
• What are your career plans?
• What hobbies do you have?
• Ask your instructor or librarian for help.

Look at the news and current events for ideas. Try some of these news sites:

• The Boston Globe
• CNN
• The New York Times
• NPR
• BBC
