To successfully complete an assignment you must understand the parameters of the assignment. The length of the paper and how long you have to complete it can influence what topics you can cover. Often your professor will require certain types of sources, such as: "2 books, 3 articles, and only 1 website". Be sure to bring a copy of your assignment to the library so the librarians can help you find what you need. These requirements should be addressed and planned out, because following these parameters can save you time and frustration.

To help develop a research strategy answer these basic questions before you start.

  • What class is it for?
  • Who is the instructor?
  • What is the assignment?
  • How long should the paper/project be?
  • When is it due?
  • How much time do you have?
  • Are there specific requirements for this assignment?
