Linking Content in AVON

To share films in via AVON

Click the Share button on the top menu.

A pop-up box will appear allowing you to share content in a variety of ways. Click on "Copy Permalink" and copy the persistent link. The proxy information is automatically added.

This link can be shared via email, in a chat box, or as a weblink in Blackboard.

Embedding AVON in blackboard

You can easily share or embed any AVON film (or clip or playlist you create) through the sharing tools below the film. Embedding a film allows you to place the whole video player into another website (your library website, your course management system, your blog, etc) so that the film appears and can be watched there as opposed to having to click on a separate link to the film.

In Blackboard, select "Build Content" then select "Web Link"

Fill in the Name box.

In the URL Box copy and paste the permalink from the "Share" tab in AVON.

In the Description text box, select "Insert / Edit Embedded Media"

A window will pop up.

Change the video type in the "General" tab to Iframe from Flash, in the URL box paste the permalink from the "Share" tab.

In the 3rd tab labeled "Source" paste the "Copy Embed Code" from the "Share" tab

Doing this allows for films to be seen, without students having to log in a second time through the video player.

When completed click "Insert", then "Submit".

Creating Clips and Playlists in AVON

A clip is a shortened excerpt, or cut, of a video. Academics or librarians will often create clips to show in class or share with users when a particular section of the video is of interest. Students also find the clip-making tool useful.

A "playlist" is a set of different clips or films that are curated and collated together into a single URL with the intention of being viewed together. For example, academics can create mandatory or suggested viewing playlists for their students, or a student or library user can create a playlist of their favorite videos for future reference.

You can create clips and playlists for any film on AVON

You will need to have a created account and signed into AVON.
