DOIs are an important part of the APA reference when citing articles. A DOI is a unique identifier for online articles, like an ISBN number is to a book. If a DOI is not available for an article, use the journal's homepage web address in its place.
APA Style uses an author-date system. Page numbers (or identifiers) are added when directly quoting a source. Parenthetical citations should clearly point to the corresponding entry in the References list.
