Library cards

Your NSCC ID is your library card and is valid as long as you are enrolled or employed by NSCC. IDs are for students, faculty, and staff of NSCC only, and are issued at the Student Engagement offices in Danvers (DB132) and Lynn (LW171). For students taking distance courses and/or users that only plan on accessing Library materials electronically, there is no requirement to have an NSCC ID to use as a library card. Electronic access, such as access to library databases or eBooks, requires logging in using your MyNorthShore username and password.

Students from other colleges within the HELM system may use their college IDs. Materials issued to those cards are the responsibility of the card owner. Please do not loan your card to others. Public patrons and NSCC alumni will not be able to borrow items directly from the NSCC libraries, but library staff can assist with locating borrowing options.

Notes:

  • Renewals are available on eligible items only of there are no holds on the item

  • For items that are not eligible for renewal, patrons may select another copy or item to loan if there is one available. Otherwise, for NSCC items, patron will be asked to wait 24 hours to check out the item again.

Overdue items and fines

The NSCC Library does not charge overdue fines for most items owned by the NSCC Library. Failure to return library items will result in the patron being charged for the cost of the item after 14 days of the item being overdue. If a patron loans an NSCC owned item that will incur overdue fines if returned later, the patron will be informed prior to loaning the item.

Notes:

A hold will be placed on your college account once materials are 28 days overdue. Outstanding library materials will result in college restrictions, including the inability to register for classes, to graduate, or to obtain transcripts.

Overdue materials on your account may affect your borrowing privileges at HELM libraries. Failure to receive overdue notices does not remove the responsibility for paying associated fines and fees.

Fine Appeals

Users are asked to contact the library if they believe they were charged a fine in error or there was a special circumstance that prevented them from returning the material on time. To submit an appeal, please fill out the Fine Appeal form. Reasons that are considered basis for an appeal include family emergency, serious illness or injury, destruction of property due to natural disaster or theft (documentation required), or library error.

Replacement of materials

The cost of unreturned, lost or damaged material is the responsibility of the card owner.

Destruction of property

See MGL, Ch. 266, Sec. 100.
