What is the Library Liaison Program?

What is the library liaison program?

The Library’s liaison program pairs a teaching and research support librarian with faculty in academic programs. The goals of the liaison program are to facilitate library collaboration with academic departments, increase library awareness of faculty needs for teaching and research, and promote information literacy within the college community.

Your library liaison:

  • Is your dedicated contact in the Library
  • Can help you identify and obtain direct access to the resources you need for teaching and learning in your subject area
  • Will support you with library resources when it’s time for your department’s program review or accreditation
  • Help you develop subject guides based on library resources for your area of expertise
  • Handle or refer library instruction requests and student research support in your discipline

Examples of library liaison services and collaborations:

  • Developing appropriate curriculum supported library collections
  • Designing online research guides (LibGuides) that aggregate assignment, course or program resources for student and faculty use>
  • Creating permanent links to articles, books or videos from the Library’s subscription databases for use in Blackboard
  • Assisting faculty in identifying more affordable course materials using library subscriptions, Open Educational Resources, or free resources
  • Collaborating with faculty to design effective research assignments for courses; teaching discipline specific library instructional classes to support student research; and integrating information literacy tutorials into courses to help students develop critical thinking skills related to academic discourse, research, and the ethical use of information
  • Providing research assistance for faculty projects, preparation for conference presentations, and literature reviews
