49th Forum On Tolerance Speaker: David Shribman

On October 27, 2018, an armed American white nationalist killed 11 worshippers at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA. The tragic killings carried out at Tree of Life were reported on by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and North Shore native, David Shribman. In his keynote address, David Shribman will discuss his experience covering this tragedy and how reflecting upon it might lead to hope, healing, and combating antisemitism. What is Antisemitism?

Many organizations, both political and non, have differing understandings and working definitions of Antisemitism. The US Department of State's definition is included below. Researchers are encouraged to use tools like Credo Reference to better understand Antisemitism.

Defining Antisemitism
The US Department of State, along with nearly 1,100 institutions now uses the following definition: "Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities."
