If individuals are named as authors, list the government department or organization as the publisher. Only include a description of format if the title is unclear of format delivery or if a less common type of format, such as a conference or presentation.

Fire Codes

Always check with your instructor is there's a preference in citation style.

The Code of Massachusetts Regulations (CMR) is the complete set of regulations from state agencies. 527 CMR 1.00 is the MA Fire Code which contains 75 chapters and subtopics and notes; it is meant to be read in conjunction with the NFPA 2021 Fire Code. Note: Both are available in print at the Danvers campus library. 

For the in-text reference, use NFPA code number or MA 527 CMR code number.

Federal and State Laws

Include as much information as is available. U.S.C. is short for United States Code. If a federal law has several scattered sections, list the public law number and statute; otherwise, add et seq to include all additions. § is the abbreviation for Section. To add the §: on Windows, hold down the Alt key and type the numbers 0167. On Macs, hold down the Option key and type the number 6. Alternatively, you can insert it through the Insert > Symbol menu.
