Using Online Sources

Below you will find some recommended online resources. This is a list of reliable media and websites that you can use in your research.

Interested in using other online sources?

There are lots of amazing online resources available to you but also a lot on the internet is not reliable or appropriate for college level research. Here are a few tips for finding high-quality, reliable sources

1) Search for .edu, .org, and .gov websites. Use Google Advanced search to limit to these domains to quickly weed out commercial websites and sites where it will be harder to determine the reliability

2) Make a list of people and organizations working in the area of your topic and search for them

3) Look for museums and libraries with online collections you can access

4)  Check the credentials of the person who has posted the information and check for how recently the information was posted or updated

5) Find something that seems too good to be true? Try to find other sources that verify or corroborate the information you are finding

Not sure if the source you found is an appropriate academic source?

No problem! Use Navigate to schedule an appointment with a librarian and we can look at it together!
