Unattended Children

Although the NSCC Libraries welcome all responsible users, our collections and facilities are intended primarily for our College Community, especially students. We strive to provide an environment that is pleasant and conducive to study and research. Apart from the Juvenile Collection at the Lynn Campus Library, our resources are geared to a college audience.

For their safety, we ask that children be supervised at all times by a parent or other responsible adult. Campus Police will be notified of unattended children.

Children who are accompanied by an adult are permitted in the NSCC Libraries providing that their behavior is appropriate for an academic library.

Children may not be left unsupervised in the Libraries.

Parents (or other responsible adult) who bring young children to the Library must keep them under control and within sight.

Parents (or other responsible adult) should be aware of students nearby who may be disturbed by talking and constant movement.

Parents (or other responsible adult) will be held responsible for their child's behavior. Loud or disruptive children and their responsible adult may be asked to leave.

Children are not permitted to use the computers in the Libraries.

Parents will be held responsible for any damage caused to library property by their children.

Parents (or other responsible adult) of children who are disruptive will be asked to remove their children from the library.

High School students may use the online catalogs for homework and research purposes only. (See the Computer Use Policy)

Anyone who misbehaves in the library will be given a verbal warning. (See Guidelines for Conduct.) If the misbehavior continues, Campus Police will be notified.

The Library Staff cannot be responsible for children who are left unattended in the library.
